I have been pleased beyond all expectations with this little box. It's not 100% perfect, but close enough I'm practically giddy.
I wouldn't consider this to be an audiophile setup, so I'm not sure this is what you want for critical listening of classical music, but for background music at a party, or for blasting tunes you can dance to among a group of friends in the outdoors, on a patio, or even in a decent-sized room, the sound is great. Great bass you can feel. Don't try to fill an entire gym with one of these compact speakers, or broadcast over a large crowd... common sense should tell you that, however. For reasonable uses, however, I've almost never had to turn the unit up to the max volume levels it is capable of.
On a camping trip in the desert recently, I put it in the back basket of an adult trike and rode around with my own personal soundtrack. The one caveat is any bumps will knock the iPod/iPhone loose, and stop the music, but a simple bungee cord locked things in place nicely, no more problems there. :)
The battery lasts forever! And you can charge your iPod/iPhone with it, as well, so your player comes back to you fully charged, even after listening to music all day/night! Or, flip the switch and save the juice for the speaker, your choice.
I haven't used the radio yet, so I can't say much about that. Other reviews cover the pros and cons of that. I haven't tried to use it as a PA, either, with the included (cool!) mic, but I can see that being quite handy as well. I do wish it had a top carrying strap like my little Roland Micro Cube, but I can live with without that easily enough, and with a drill and some short screws I could always add one if it ends up really bothering me.
In short, I've used this far more than I ever expected I would. Well worth the money. Although I purchased mine at Costco for considerably less than Amazon is charging, surprisingly. They only seem to carry the larger Block Rocker model now, not the smaller Tailgater. I like the portable size of the tailgater, personally, and am fine with trading that smaller size over the higher output of the larger model.
