This review is from the point of view of someone who uses an iPod for mp3 play.

When I ordered the Yamaha speaker dock, I hoped it would be as attractive as it was online. No worries there; it's sturdy, attractive and unique. But that's just the beginning. Among the things I like about this player:

* It charges the iPod (or other device) when plugged in. No more wondering how much battery power you've got left.

* With its convenient handle and light weight, it's exceedingly easy to transport.

* It's compatible with multiple devices and, though it only allows mp3 play, there's no extra space taken up by radio or CD components.

* A small remote is included and works great. I routinely use it from about 12 feet and have no trouble. Not only that, but its buttons are simple and clear.

* Some have mentioned the lack of volume and playback controls on this unit. I have no problem with this; my iPod offers several different sound equalizations and possesses its own volume and playback controls.

Most importantly, the sound is great. Some have gripes; this is not supposed to be a Bose house-wide integrated system. It's basically a boom box. That said, it has rich sound (not tinny like smaller units can be), excellent base and volume that would accommodate even very large gatherings. I've been through several portable players and docks over the last several years. This is, hands down, the best thing I've come across.
