First of all let me say that I am not a professional DJ, or a professional musician. I'm just an average guy who loves music and "toys". I can't speak to the impedance, ohms, wattage, DB, signal gain or loss, or anything else technical. What I can say is that I was looking for a pair of speakers to play music at parties (indoor and outdoor) and to run my home karaoke system through. I saw the features of this speaker, and the price, and I read the reviews (some good, some bad) and figured that for the price is was worth taking a chance. (Side note: it seems like the price changes every day. From as much as $183 to as little as $148. So time your purchase.)
I bought two of these speakers and the were packaged very well and arrived in pristine condition. They are relatively small compared to others I had looked at, and they are also fairly lightweight. But how do they sound? I'm getting there... They have a number of really neat features including multiple input options, built in volume controls for each input, the built in EQ, built in flash drive and SD card inputs with digital display, and of course, they're powered! No separate amps to drag around.
I first tried a single speakers hooked up to ITunes on my laptop and I was impressed with the sound. Both the clarity, and the volume. There was no rattling or vibration at higher volumes, and the sound was not "muddy" or tinny". I did adjust the EQ for various tracks to my liking. These are the only PA speakers I have owned so I can not do a side by side comparison, but as far as I can tell they compare well to other PS speakers I have had and heard, and they are certainly more than adequate for my needs. Last Saturday I used them to DJ karaoke for a friend's birthday party (just a small gathering, again, I'm not a professional). I ran them through the stereo out XLR's on my Yamaha MG124CX, and they produced plenty of clean sound and impressed the guests. I never got above 1/4 volume and that was more than enough.
Bottom line: If you are going to be a pro DJ and have $1000+ to spend on just the speakers, there are probably plenty of better options out there. If you are looking for something that will be perfect for home use, provide more then enough volume for any home party, and that you could still use to DJ on a budget, these are great.
